If your BlackBerry Bold develops a major software problem it may become unable to function at all. Whether it powers up and then right back down, or never fully powers up at all, your Bold is considered to be 'bricked.' To correct the problem, also called unbricking, you need to reinstall the entire operating system. The standard BlackBerry software tools weren't designed to handle devices in a bricked state, so you have use a few extra steps to force the reinstallation process to work.
1.Download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Software and the latest version of your BlackBerry Bold's operating system, in that order, onto your PC. You can find the Desktop Software at the BlackBerry website, and the Bold software at your wireless carrier's website.
2.Click your Windows 'Start' button and type 'CMD' into the search box. Hit enter and a small black box containing a command prompt will appear. Type the following line into the command prompt, without quotes: 'cd c:program files (x86)common filesresearch in motionapploader'. Hit 'Enter' to go to this directory. Note that some versions of Windows may not need the '(x86)' after 'program files.'
3.Connect your bricked BlackBerry Bold to the PC using your BlackBerry data cable. Type 'loader.exe /nojvm' into the command prompt box and hit 'Enter.' A small window will appear on your screen. Click 'Next' to advance to the next page on the window.
4.Click the drop-down arrow in the middle of the window and choose 'USB:UNKNOWN' from the list of options. If you don't see this option, disconnect the Bold, pull its battery out and then place it back in. Quickly reconnect the device and after a few seconds you will see 'USB:UNKNOWN' appear in the drop-down list. You only have a few seconds to see this option, so click it quickly and click 'Next.'

Choose the 'Replace' option and then place a check mark next to the 'BlackBerry System Software' listing. Click 'Next' and the loader program will reinstall your BlackBerry Bold's operating system. The process can take several minutes, and once the installation is complete your BlackBerry will automatically reset. It can take up to an hour for your BlackBerry to reboot after this initial reset.
